Check out all the amazing benefits of living in the Wismer neighbourhood of Markham.

OVERVIEW

Wismer is a fairly new neighbourhood located in the north central part of Markham. The sound of children playing in the local schoolyards tells you this is a young and vibrant neighbourhood geared towards families. The streets include bike routes and traffic calming. The pedestrian sidewalks are well-treed and enhanced by ornate street lamps. There is plenty of greenspace and nature nearby for local residents to enjoy.

HISTORY

The Wismer family were prominent settlers in Markham. The family patriarch, David Wismer, was of German descent. He originally migrated to Pennsylvania before settling in Markham Township in 1806. The area’s first school house was situated on land donated by the Wismer family. This one-room schoolhouse was located near the south west corner of what is now 16th Avenue and Highway 48.
